PECS EDUCATION- MISSION AND VALUES STATEMENT

Pecs Education’s motto is ‘Lifting for Liberation’. Pecs Education exists to create an inclusive, empowering, and anti-racist space by and for trans masculine and non-binary or Trans+ people who connect with masculinity.

We believe in the transformative power of collective movement, and we centre joy, safety, expertise and community in everything we do. Our mission is to make our expert-led strength and conditioning classes accessible, affirming, and rooted in collective care, especially for those most often marginalised in gym and sport spaces. We believe that minority communities shouldn’t be short changed in terms of the quality of services they are offered, and employ expert coaches and use professional spaces that meet our needs.

As a CIC, we are accountable to the people we serve. Our work is guided by mutual respect, consent, and a shared commitment to equity. We aim to challenge norms in the fitness industry and build something more meaningful. We embody our values. We lift for liberation.

Our Core Values

1. Respect & Inclusion
Discrimination of any kind—racism, transphobia, ableism, or otherwise—has no place in our space. We treat every member of our community with kindness and respect.

2. Safety & Consent
We create safer spaces by seeking consent, respecting boundaries, and communicating clearly. Everyone deserves to feel secure—physically, emotionally, and socially.

3. Confidentiality & Trust
We honour each other’s privacy. No one should ever be outed or have their personal information shared without consent, whether on social media or otherwise. We will always ask before taking any photos or adding members to whatsapp groups.

4. Anti-Racism & Equity
We actively challenge racism in all its forms. Our commitment to anti-racism is ongoing and rooted in listening, reflection, and action. We strive to centre QTIPOC voices and experiences in everything we do.

5. Community & Support
We lift each other up. Whether in class, in meetings or online, we celebrate progress, allow space for vulnerability, and keep our channels respectful and affirming.

6. Accountability & Growth
We all make mistakes—and we learn from them. We are open to feedback, willing to reflect, and ready to make changes when needed. When harm happens, we address it directly and with care. This is how we continue to grow

If you have any questions or concerns about about any of the above, you can email us on pecs.ed@gmail.com, or email our BPOC committee on pecs.ed.bpoc@gmail.com or speak to any of  our coaches in class. Please see below for our Global Majority Strength Class Values Statement.

GLOBAL MAJORITY/ BPOC CLASS VALUES STATEMENT

Hello! Welcome to Pecs’ Global Majority/BPOC class, we’re so glad to have you.

This class is for people from the Global Majority, often referred to as BPOC. Pecs is a space for transmasculine people, including trans men and nonbinary people, who are typically excluded from gyms and other fitness spaces.

This class is specifically for transmasculine people of colour, who face further marginalisation within white-dominated trans spaces. With this in mind, we would like to set some values and guidelines for the space. We encourage you to reflect on these values during the class, and we would love to hear about how you relate, and what ideals you associate with the space!

Values

Liberation: The Pecs’ motto is “Lifting for Liberation”, and this rings especially true for the global majority class. As black people, and people of colour, our bodies and our existence are essential for and central to any liberation. In this class we want to develop our strength, our community, and our relationships with our bodies, so that we can feel liberated within ourselves, and to help us fight for our collective liberation.

Embodiment:Embodiment for us means acting on what you believe, bringing your body into alignment with their beliefs, and just being who you want to be within your body! We call for the empowerment of the global majority and trans community, and in this class we act on this by working towards strengthening ourselves, and developing our skills, as the people who make up these identities. In this class, we explore what is possible, what we are capable of, and what we want to be, physically and politically.

Community:In this class, we want to build solidarity with one another. This class is more than an opportunity to work out - it’s an opportunity to connect with people who share some of your identities and experiences. In this class, we want to connect with each other, grow together, and learn how to support one another in meeting our needs, as people at the intersection of race, gender, and so often also class, migration, and other systemic challenges. This class holds space for having all of these identities, together.

Collaboration:When spaces claim to be “the first” of their kind, they can sometimes risk erasing the existence of people like us throughout history. This approach is often coupled with a sense of personal ownership over spaces that are intended for community. We want to recognise that this class is connected to and in collaboration with every group of BPOC transmascs, past or present, who have come together to work out and be in community with one another. We also wish for this class to be a collaboration between everyone who shares the space, through supporting one another during the classes, sharing ideas and feedback, and collectively explore the potential of this space and this group. Community works best with intentional and active participation!

Autonomy:Autonomy is having the freedom to make choices for yourself, and to be free from external control, whether thats by society, by governments, by social constructs, etc. Existing as trans people, as black people and people of colour, requires us to exercise our autonomy - to resist and break free from those who might want to make decisions about our bodies and our lives. In this class, we will explore bodily autonomy - having control over your body, having a say over what your body can be, and having the ability and resilience to continue to fight for your right to exist as yourself.

Power:Historically, trans people and the global majority have been denied power, and have been oppressed by the powers that be - the states, the governments, the colonisers, and the patriarchy. In this space, we turn the tables - we take back our power, we build our power, and we remind ourselves of our power. In this space, we practice power differently - our power is collective, our power is a shared resource, and our power is liberatory. It is not hierarchical, it is not built on the destruction of others - it is the practice of building up our innate power, whilst supporting those around us to access their power.

Guidelines:

  1. Consent: in this class, we will be working together in a lot of different ways. That might sometimes include working out in ways that involve physical touch. It’s important that we respect other people
  2. Confidentiality: people might, or might not, share information in the class. It is important that we don’t share information outside the class
  3. Communication: community requires good communication. It’s important that we listen to one another, especially when the coaches are providing information, and it’s important that we speak about any thoughts or feelings about the space.
  4. Punctuality: punctuality is important, because it is important that we warm up properly for our safety. It is also a way to show consideration for the space and for the people that share the space.
  5. Don’t assume: try to keep language neutral and inclusive where you might not be sure; don’t assume pronouns, backgrounds, or any personal details that haven’t been shared with you.

Conclusion:

Most importantly, this is a space to have fun and feel good!  These are just some suggestions about how we can maintain that energy, and we are always open to suggestions, feedback and ideas! Feel free to get in touch at: pecs.ed.bpoc@gmail.com
